Azerbaijan International Exhibition and Conference on Telecommunications and Information Technologies BakuTel was established by ITE Group in 1995.
In 2009 the total exhibition area was 1,559 sq. m. BakuTel 2009 has received 13,954 visitors. There were presented 105 exponents from 15 countries.

Economy and IT industry of Azerbaijan
According to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, telecommunications and information technologies in Azerbaijan's economy will be the most developed sector after the oil industry.
In IT sector of Azerbaijan is the fastest growing sector of the Azerbaijan economy after the energy sector. The annual growth of the Azerbaijan IT industry for the last 3 years was about 30%.
According to the report of the World Economic Forum named The Global Information Technology Report 2008-2009, Azerbaijan occupies 60th place among the top 134 countries in terms of Networked Readiness Index.
To connect Eastern Europe, Middle East and countries of Central Asia Azerbaijan has initiated the development of a high-speed information highway.
Under the state program for 2008-2012 named Electronic Azerbaijan, whose main aim is to develop the country's space industry and to promote Azerbaijan on the world space market, the volume of the IT sector in 2012 will increase by five times, and in 2018-2020 is expected to achieve the level of profit of the Azerbaijan oil industry.
