Azerbaijan and Georgia are the most attractive tourism countries in Southern Caucasus

World Economic Forum with headquarter in Davos published countries tourism competitiveness report. According to Сapital newspaper Armenia was listed 91 among 133 states.

According to report the most attractive from tourism perspective are Switzerland, Austria and Germany. Top ten is also presented by France, Canada, Spain, Sweden, USA, Australia and Singapore.

End of the list is compiled by poorest countries of S.America, Asia and Central Africa. In general, the most attractive continent is Europe with 14 European countries presented in top 20.

Armenia demonstrated a lower than average result lagging behind most CIS countries including Georgia (73 place) (73-е место) and Azerbaijan (76 place). These countries are the main competitors for tourists in the region.  Neighboring Turkey has 56 place.

The highest result among CIS countries has Russia (59 place) followed by Georgia, Azerbaijan and Ukraine. The lowest result is with Tajikistan – 109 place.

Central Asian states are either behind Armenia (Kazakhstan, Kirgizstan and Tajikistan) or not mentioned in the report at all (Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan). Moldova was also left behind Armenia.

The worst parameter that brought Armenia such a poor result was the state of its ecology. Among other parameters assessed were quality of air and road transport, Internet accessibility for tourists, etc.
