Draft Agreement is ready on Organization of Cruise Itineraries across Caspian Sea

Azerbaijan has signed cooperation agreements in tourism area with 22 countries. Another 27 states received draft agreements. To promote tourist potential of Azerbaijan Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan is planning to organise an information tour in 2009 for media and travel agencies from Greece, Egypt, Morocco, Jordan and Germany, informed Minister of Tourism of Azerbaijan Abulfas Garayev.

“Taking into account that developing all-round cooperation is one of the priorities for our tourism policy we are building up activity on developing tourism cooperation with WTO, UN, OIC, BSEC, GUAM, Tourism Council of CIS and joining existing tourism projects, active participation in international events, making new suggestions and projects, signing new cooperation agreements.

Our country hosted a number of international events in the last two years. One of the shining examples for this is hosting Fifth Conference of Islamic Ministers of Tourism in Baku in September 9-12, 2007.”

Ministry of Culture and tourism of Azerbaijan is taking part in ‘Wine Routes’ and ‘Alexander Duma in Caucasus’ projects that are carried our under the aegis of Kiev Initiative of Council of Europe, in ‘German settlements in Azerbaijan’ project, in ‘Great Silk Road’ project sponsored by WTO UN.

Draft agreement is ready to be signed by governments of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Iran, Russia and Turkmenistan to cooperate in organization of cruise tours across Caspian Sea.

Most of the tourists coming to Azerbaijan visit just Baku. Baku is historic, cultural and industrial centre of Azerbaijan. Quite a lot of local and foreign tourists also visit other towns and regions of Azerbaijan, mainly in direction of Quba-Khachmaz, Lankaran-Astara, Shamaha-Qabala, Sheki-Zakatala, Ganja-Gazakh. Though the level of inbound tourism is not satisfactory we are happy with its growth rate, said Garayev.
