Grand Hotel Europe (claims to be a 5 star venue) is located 5 km outside Baku city centre. In terms of transportation the location is not the best since one would have to have 15-20 minutes ride to get to Baku central area with its business districts and major tourist attractions. Nearest tube stations are '20 Yanvar' and 'Nizami' - both around 20-25 minute walk away.
To get to Baku downtown you would have to go to Nizami station and catch a train towards 28 May station, make change and head towards 'Sahil' or 'IcheriSheher'. Hotel's location would be a major advantage for participants of numerous international fairs and exhibitions that are traditionally held in HeydarAliyev Sport Complex which is just 5-10 minutes' walk to Grand Hotel Europe.
96 spacious rooms (65 French rooms, 13 twin rooms, 16 executive suites and 2 King suites with balconies) feature individually controlled air conditioning, private bath, satellite TV, mini bar, direct dial telephone, safe, smoke detectors, automatic sprinkler system, swipe keys. Most of the rooms have nice views of the Caspian Sea and that's way you can ask for the room with the sea view. Decorated with elegant furnishings, each room offers a mix of old-world and modern d?cor. There has been some renovation in 2012 but the furniture are still old and out dated. Air conditioning in some rooms don't work properly.
Many customers reported problems with the hot water that gets barely warm by the end of shower. The water pressure in the hotel is terrible and the showering takes long time! Sometimes there is a problem with Internet connection. They charge money for Wi-Fi connection and it never properly works.
Breakfast buffet is fine with cooked to order eggs and selection of meats, cheeses, and fruits. They could still improve breakfast by having a little more hot food available. Grand Hotel Europe has The Terrance Grill restaurant, plus 24 hour cafe and a bar. Restaurant is serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Live music (piano, violin) during dinner. Disco located in the complex starts at 10PM and goes until dawn. You can not afraid to order lunch or dinner in the restaurant - everything is tasty and fresh. The restaurant staff is first class, very helpful and attentive. The food is good but the choice is a little limited on the menu.
The best thing in this hotel is their nice and helpful staff. They are always ready to solve any problem.
Fitness center is very good with many machines and a health club that offers massages. Barber shop on site as well. There is large outdoor swimming pool with bar. The indoor pool is a little small for a good swim and it is not in use during cold weather. There is a well-equipped business center offering an appropriate range of services. Sauna, dry cleaning, pharmacy and medical care are also available.
Unfortunately, this hotel does not live up to its self-claim of a "5-star luxury hotel". If you just want a basic hotel, it is sufficient, but don't have high expectations.
