'Old Gates' is a small hotel located in Baku's Old City next to Governor's Garden, Polish embassy and British Council office. Actually, it's based in the street where the famous scene from cult Soviet comedy The Diamond Arm (1968) - (Бриллиантовая Рука) - with watermelon skin and all-known catch phrase 'Чёрт побери' took place.

Apart from that the hotel has indeed a fantastic location with easy access to major tourist attractions of Baku. It has its own parking. The Caspian Sea Boulevard is 2 minutes walk away just over the walls of Old City across the road.

The Old Gates Hotel offers 11 spacious (converted apartments) Deluxe and Executive Suites (3 economic standard rooms, 6 deluxe rooms, 2 luxe rooms). All of the simply furnished rooms at the Old Gates come equipped with air conditioning, tea/coffee facilities and satellite TV. Some have a sitting area with a sofa. All rooms provide the captivating view over the Old City as well as the Caspian Sea.

Housekeeping needs more attention, rooms are not cleaned on a daily basis. Towels and linen changed on a weekly basis, if you stay so. A/C is terribly noisy.

The Hotel Gates’s restaurant features a summer terrace and views of Baku. Breakfast is rather limited and is served in the dark and dingy dining room. Hotels owner manages the business in a old Soviet style, lack of interest demonstrated by the management team.

Location is perhaps the only plus. But there are plenty more beautiful hotels in Baku, which are similarly or even less priced and located in the center. In the rest cleaning problems, absolute lack of interest and care by the staff. Try to find a better option.
