Tour type: Baku & Absheron ExcursionsPrice: $35.00Duration: 1from January to December
Greetings, Comrades!
This is an excursion not for all, but only for those who is interested in Baku’s not so distant history under the Soviets. 3 hours guided walk will take you through the central part of Baku with emphasis on its Soviet architectural heritage. You’ll learn the stories behind these buildings, who built them and what for. You’ll learn how Soviet people lived in those times and what they had been dreaming of and fighting for. You’ll discover new layer of cultural, socio-political and architectural information about Baku that otherwise would undoubtedly be missed.
The experience might be nostalgic for some, a cold war fascination for others, but either way, you can count on a very entertaining tour led by a guide whose performance is full of questions, provocations, and surprises. We walk a special route discovering some of Baku’s Soviet features both archetypal and hidden, starting from what was built as the “Central Committee of Communist Party of Azerbaijan”. There are lots to learn as you pass such brilliantly named buildings as the “Monolith” and end up where the USSR’s Baku rulers were toppled in 1991 – the appropriately dubbed “House of Soviets”.
Expect facts and rumors, legends and fun, with an extraordinary atmosphere guaranteed.
