Old City Inn is located on a quiet residential street within the walls of Icheri Sheher (Old City) - XII-th century architectural monument that is in UNESCO's list of world heritage sites. The inn has a great location, 5 minutes from everything within the old city: Maiden's Tower, Shirvan Shah's palace, SOCAR (if you're on business), the Nizami museum, seaside Boulevard and shopping area. etc This is an excellent alternative to the Hyatt complex and great value for money. Icheri Sheher filled with very narrow streets and a lot of small shops of antiques is a major tourist attraction itself. Other attractions such as museums and historical sites are in close proximity to the hotel. If you are in Baku especially to explore the Old Town this place will be a great choice. The small market where on can buy some water or food is just next to the hotel.
The inn is quite small with only 15 relatively spacious rooms, comprising of 4 levels with a restaurant on the top floor. Rooms are tastefully appointed, some with great views over the Caspian (ask for room 7). Better rooms that are much bigger and very nice are on a higher floors, the smallest room is on the ground floor. Generally, rooms are spacious, bright and well appointed (TV, fridge, free WiFi access). The bathrooms are OK, however a little out of date.
There are no elevator, steps are steep, and really quite an issue. Breakfast is served on the top floor and without young(ish) legs, it could be a struggle. Cleaning every day. They offer also each day complimentary water (2 bottels), coffee and tea in the room.
The breakfast is very very simple but if you are not a breakfast freak it’s fine. The restaurant for breakfast is located on the 4th floor and the view – great. You are overlooking the old part of the town. Old City Inn has a small Business Center, but lacks swimming pool and sporting facilities. If you can live without them and rather stay in a welcoming place, then the Old City Inn is the place for you.
Since the hotel is located in the heart of Baku there are a lot of nice dining options around. You can try the Caravansarai restaurant, just 5 mins away from the hotel, occupying an authentic 14th century Hindu Caravansarai.
You need to know that Old City Inn is run as a training hotel for students at the Baku's Western University. So sometimes, things might not work smoothely. But with a good sense of humor, everything can be solved and the "staff" is very motivated and ready to help. The team members are friendly but don’t expect too much English. Keep the questions simple. But if you are not so adventurous in your hotel choices, try another hotel.
There is a bar and restaurant in the hotel. On the roof of the hotel you will find a cozy Harbor Cafe with breathtaking views of the Baku harbor and the Maiden Tower fortress.
The hotel is in a fantastic location in the Old Сity. The rooms are clean and modern. This is fine for people who don't expect much other than a clean and comfortable place to sleep at night. Obviously, there are better places there but it is recommended for a short trip.
